How to delete items from google search

I don't like Google and I don't want them as a search engine in Opera. Each time I open Opera, even though I have deleted Google from the search engines in the preferences in my last session, Google reappears as the default search engine. I deleted other search engines (like the Wikipedia search) and they never reappear - only Google.
